Since then we have been inseparable. We've gone on all kinds of adventures together, from adopting a rag tag group of fur babies (Doug, Momo, Halle, and Kyle), road trips, and turning our love of artistry into a full time job.
Our own love story began in 2013 when we met at Kent State University. We bonded over some late night talks and shared interests. One January evening, Matt was working at a Chinese restaurant and brought Penny some crab rangoons. Need we say more?
Fate is a wonderful thing. Neither of us initally planned on going to school at Kent. Sometimes we think about the little things that nudged us in that direction and it just seems so unbelievable that those tiny events rippled into a greater outcome.
That's why we embrace the little things with open arms. Quiet time together in our tiny home, daily walks at the park with our dogs, and coffee dates in the afternoon. This appreciation for little moments is something we've carried over into our work as we document weddings. We believe the little moments paint the most beautiful pictures.
In 2020 we leaped into wedding filmmaking full time. It was the hardest year of our lives filled with immense pain and struggles. But the support of our couples and the joy we felt in telling their stories kept us going.
For us, wedding filmmaking is about more than just documenting a day; it’s about crafting films that allow couples to feel the emotions and warmth of their memories, time and time again.
I had an unconventinal path into the world of videography. I was always a creative kid. I loved writing short stories, doodling on my homework, and acting out comedy skits. All of high school it seemed like everyone else had their life planned out but when asked what I wanted to do after graduation I just couldn't come up with anything. Through a series of random events I ended up at Kent State where I got into the film program and even created and produced my own tv series. College graduation came and I still didn't have a firm direction to steer my career. I ended up filming my brothers wedding and that's when I discovered that I loved blending documenting real life with art and storytelling.
Hello! I’m Penny, the wife and other half behind Carnation Films. I’m a Kent State Alumna with a degree in Business Administration. Go Flashes! A few things about me, I love animals, am a bit of a design nerd, and travel is on my mind 24/7. There’s really nothing I enjoy more than a full tank of gas and the open road with my favorite people. Spending my days with Matt hiking, being homebodies, eating good food, and planning our next spot to explore is pretty much the best.
At Carnation Films, we are dedicated to more than just capturing moments—we are here to tell your love story with authenticity, artistry, and care. Our approach is personal, tailored to who you are as a couple. We work closely with you to ensure that every shot, every frame, reflects the unique essence of your relationship. Whether it’s through photography or film, we’re here to create a timeless keepsake that you’ll treasure for a lifetime.

We limit the number of weddings we take on each year because we care about creating an amazing experience.
Heartfelt photos and films are a given. Our couples also value our friendship along with the experience and intimate moments we help to create.
