Somewhere along the way, we realized the moments we value most are usually the quiet ones.
Slow mornings. Long conversations. Time with the people (and pets) we love.
That’s what naturally shaped the way we approach weddings, too.
We met in college in 2013, bonding over late night conversations, creativity, and a shared love for meaningful storytelling. What started as a friendship eventually became both a marriage and the foundation for Carnation Films.
Over time, we realized the moments we value most in our own lives are usually the quiet ones.
Slow mornings. Long conversations. Time with the people (and pets) we love.
That perspective naturally shaped the way we approach weddings, too.
We care deeply about meaningful moments, but we also don’t take ourselves too seriously. We’re probably the kind of people who will cry during your vows and joke around with your friends five minutes later.
When people first reach out to us, one of the biggest things they say is:
“We’re awkward in front of a camera.”
Truthfully, most couples feel that way at first.
That’s why we keep our approach relaxed, natural, and lightly guided.
No stiff posing. No pressure to perform.
Just space for you to be yourselves together.
Some of our favorite moments happen when couples forget we’re filming at all.
I’ve always been drawn to things that feel nostalgic, meaningful, and built to last — indie films, old home videos, and stories that only grow more valuable with time.
I care far more about sentimental value than appearances or perfection, and that perspective naturally shaped the way Penny and I approach weddings.
On a wedding day, I’m usually the one cracking jokes, keeping things relaxed, and helping people forget the camera is even there. I want couples to feel like themselves, not like they’re performing.
For me, filmmaking has always been about preserving feeling. The moments that become more meaningful as the years go on.
I’ve always loved the little things that make a space or experience feel thoughtful like good design, cozy evenings at home, road trips, and time with the people I love most.
I’m a bit of a homebody, a bit of an adventurer, and usually the one making sure everything behind the scenes feels calm and intentional.
Whether we’re filming weddings or planning our next trip together, I care so much about creating an experience that feels comfortable and meaningful.
The best moments happen when you stop trying to make them happen.
"Matt and Penny are an absolute joy and the best of the best! We felt so comfortable with them on our wedding day and it honestly felt like we were spending time with friends.
"Matt and Penny are LOVELY and so incredibly talented. They work so hard and have such vision. We felt so special in trusting our wedding day under their talent."
"They took the time to get to know us and about what we wanted out of our video. I would highly recommend them to any couple looking for a videographer."
We take on a limited number of weddings each year so every couple gets our full attention and a really intentional experience.
